Well Worn | Jena Goldsack

Ocean lover Jena takes to the beach in this seasons sustainable swimwear.

Swimwear has always been one of fashion’s most unsustainable areas due to the synthetic fibres like nylon and polyester used in the production process. Polyester and nylon come from petroleum and they require huge amounts of water and energy, what’s more they don’t biodegrade!

Thankfully there’s a wave of designers working with sustainable materials to tackle this issue. Fishing nets make up a large percentage of marine litter so brands are working out a way to give this waste a second life. One example is ECONYL, a regenerated nylon made from plastics collected from landfill and our oceans. Chemically identical to nylon it is stretchy when woven and infinitely recyclable.

This editorial showcases the brands looking for answers to our ocean-plastic problem, whilst also supporting local communities and charities in the process.
