In keeping with our community-themed print issue, we spoke with wellbeing coach Adrienne Adhami to find out what community means to her and ask her advice on making new connections, particularly for those who struggle with confidence. Plus, we’ve rounded up festive events and retreats where you can carve out time for yourself while also making new friends.

Adrienne is an author, TEDx speaker, and brand advisor, whose work inspires individuals and organisations to tap into their full potential. With a successful career sharing her insights, we spoke to Adrienne about building connections, boosting confidence and setting boundaries.

What does community mean to you, and how has it impacted your wellbeing?

For me, community is about showing up and supporting the people within my network—especially women. It’s about offering advice and support online and IRL. Whether it’s celebrating wins, sharing each other's work, or just being there to listen, these acts of support can create a knock on effect that benefits everyone. My community is essential for my well-being. It takes a lot of energy and courage to put yourself out there and to share your ideas with the world. It's nice to know I have a community of people who really understand what that feels like.

Do you have any advice for someone struggling with the confidence to join a new group or make new connections?

On my podcast Power Hour, I’ve been lucky enough to interview several communication experts, and one of the biggest takeaways is that great communication is more about listening than talking. You don’t need to be an extrovert or super confident to connect with others. Start by asking someone a thoughtful question and genuinely listening to their response. That simple act creates a space for connection without the pressure to perform or impress.

Many women aspire to build a community around their work. How did you connect with your audience, and how are you continuing to expand that community today?

In my experience, building a community is a gradual process. I’ve been in the wellbeing industry for over 12 years, and it’s taken time to gather a tribe of like-minded people. It starts by finding those people who share your values and then over time, those connections grow into a community. Making the effort to attend events and meet people face to face is also incredibly meaningful- especially in our digital-first world. There’s something powerful about sharing a conversation in real life that can’t be replicated online. Those moments create deeper connections and lasting relationships.

Your new book is called Decisions That Matter, what are some of the most important decisions you’ve made for your own wellbeing?

One of the most important decisions I’ve made is learning to set boundaries—and sticking to them. For example, I have a rule that I don’t say yes to anything without at least seven days’ notice. It’s a small decision, but it saves me from last-minute stress and feeling underprepared. Another is booking a weekly lunchtime tennis lesson that’s completely non-negotiable, no matter how busy life gets. These small, intentional decisions create structure and protect my mental space, and over time, they’ve had a massive impact on my wellbeing.
