Well Travelled | Valldemossa
Valldemossa is the latest addition to It Mallorca’s portfolio of luxurious properties. Originally part of the Royal Charterhouse Palace and later gifted to the monastery, it has now been transformed into a modern sanctuary. We travelled to the adults-only estate to experience the all-new spa concept, “Valldemossa Longevity”.

Well Located
The historic village of Valldemossa is just 17 km from Palma, meaning you can settle into one of the twelve spacious suites within twenty minutes of leaving the airport. Although located in one of Mallorca’s most visited villages, the hotel retains a peaceful atmosphere. Guests can enjoy views over the terraced orchards to the mountains beyond, with the only sounds being the birdsong echoing through the arched passageways of the Carthusian Monastery opposite. A short walk from the hotel leads to the village's shuttered cafes and car-free cobblestone streets. While Valldemossa is famous for being the winter residence of composer Frédéric Chopin in 1838-1839, it also serves as a gateway for hiking excursions into the Sierra de Tramuntana Mountain range. With its rich history and nature at its doorstep, the hotel has much to offer—and that's before even mentioning the spa.
Well Rested
The twelve luxurious suites each have unique features: private sun terraces, outdoor and indoor bathtubs, exposed beams, writing desks, and views over the sun-drenched orchards. Resembling a hilltop castle, rooms are accessed via private staircases leading back to the main terrace. Owners Miguel Conde and his architect wife, Cristina Marti, share a passion for art, evident in the specially commissioned pieces that blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings. Soft furnishings in natural materials and earthy tones complement original furniture by Le Corbusier and artworks by Antonia Ferrer. Having visited several properties in the It Mallorca collection, it is clear how much thought has gone into the restoration and revival of each historic building. If you are visiting Palma, be sure to check out Can Cera in the heart of the old town; it took our breath away.
Well Nourished
The dining room at Valldemossa has been designed to offer the very best views of the monastery and surrounding mountains. In the morning, guests can enjoy a buffet-style breakfast on the terrace, while in the evening, the space transforms into De Tokio a Lima, an outpost from the renowned restaurant at It Mallorca’s Can Alomar. The menu, featuring a fusion of Japanese, Peruvian, and Mediterranean flavors, includes dishes like seafood ceviche, beef sirloin tataki, and the famous creamy pie made with Sóller lemons. Even if you’re not staying at Valldemossa, we recommend booking a table at De Tokio a Lima for a memorable gastronomic experience from chefs German Bernardi and Ricardo Rossi.
Well Being
We were initially drawn to Valldemossa for its extensive spa menu, one of the most impressive we’ve seen at a Western spa hotel. Instead of navigating the menu yourself, we recommend booking a ninety-minute session with Spa Director Amor Garzón and letting her work her magic. With over twenty-five years of experience, a therapist with her breadth of knowledge and innate intuition is hard to come by. We must mention that Amor’s English is limited, so there is little in the way of a consultation, but don’t let that deter you. Amor creates a bespoke treatment based on her assessment of your appearance and how you respond to her touch. She starts with the more obvious physical imbalances like posture, and then addresses inflammation caused by toxins, sugar, and stress. Combining techniques from Traditional Chinese Medicine, such as cupping and meridian therapy, with Korean chiropractic massage and lymphatic drainage, Amor effectively releases tension and reduces inflammation. Amor’s approach is results-driven, focusing on transformative treatments rather than just relaxation, which is why we are such big fans. She also provides extensive take-home advice, including recommendations on foods to enjoy or avoid, optimal rest periods, and beneficial movement practices. After all, the spa concept is based on promoting longevity. In addition to the treatment rooms, there is an indoor pool, an outdoor gym, and opportunities to practice yoga or join a hike, creating a well-rounded wellbeing experience.
Well Rated
It Mallorca has reinvented Valldemossa as a sanctuary for healing, and we highly recommend it for anyone seeking a restorative break. Amor's treatments rejuvenate the body, while the peaceful environment of the hotel and its surroundings rejuvenate the mind.
