Well Located

The Chalet is situated overlooking overlooking more than three miles of golden sands at Saunton, one of Britain’s best surfing beaches. The beach is backed by the spectacular Braunton Burrows, a UNESCO designated Biosphere Reserve, and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With direct access to the South West Coastal Path days should be spent exploring the local area or learning to surf.

Well Fed

The seven luxury apartments feature well-equipped kitchens, complete with wine fridges, the perfect excuse for staying in and enjoying the spectacular 700sq ft entertaining space. The wood-fired pizza oven in the grounds of the Chalet provides a seriously good set-up for watching the sun set over the sands, and on nights when you don’t feel like cooking, H&A Catering are on hand to deliver seasonal dishes to your door.

Well Being

The minimalist interiors and warm light that filters through the floor-to-ceiling windows immediately instil a sense of calm, not to mention the magnificent marble bathrooms, complete with Ila Apothecary candles. For us, the spacious apartments offer the perfect opportunity for a DIY yoga & surf retreat, there is ample space to roll out your mat and complete your practice whilst looking out over the oceanic vista. You can then head down the footpath at the front of the Chalet, hire a board and have a go at surfing. Saunton beach is the perfect place to learn to surf, with waves that are just right to get beginners up.

Surfing can be as good for our brains as it is our bodies. On a physical level, it’s an incredibly effective workout, requiring strong shoulders and arms for paddling out to the waves, and core strength and balance for riding them back to shore. Yet surfing offers much more than just physical activity, the psychological benefits are astonishing. The ocean is an environment far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, where the prevailing sound is that of the waves, so it’s a great way to disconnect and clear the mind.

Well Sustained

What’s more sustainable than skipping air travel in favour of a staycation. Lowering your carbon footprint with a short journey to the British coastline can really minimise your impact, head to the WWF Footprint Calculator to find out just how much. Not only that, self-catered accommodation can be a great way to reduce your food waste, no leftover breakfast buffets so commonly seen at hotels. Chalet Saunton also support brands such as ila Spa, beauty products made by hand in the Cotswolds using natural ingredients and minimal processing. Ila work directly with growers and farmers to support local communities and promote ancient knowledge.

Three-bedroom apartments start from £450 per night (sleeping six) on a self-catering basis.

Well Rated

Trips to Devon are usually associated with a windswept tent, and whilst camping hasn’t totally lost its appeal, this luxurious way to enjoy the coastline is ticking our boxes. Chalet Saunton embodies ‘the new escape’ so many of us are craving, designed to a level of luxury that you would associate with a top hotel, however the nature of this self-catered accommodation offers the seclusion from other guests that has become a priority for so many of us.
